Jakob’s Wife sets the tone for a whole new girl-power horror genre.

Jakob’s Wife is an intriguing horror film with a bigger message. How we all go about our normal, mundane lives, and yet always crave for something more. For Barbara Crampton‘s lead role, that word has more meaning in a literal sense than it does in our reality.

This is a flick that screams female empowerment, and it is also a rare subject in horror films. 2021 is the year of being woke, so to speak. So when us ladies get the chance to make our own projects, you bet we sail off of the rooftops with it.

Extra shoutout to Jessie Seitz for her incredible FX/makeup. I sincerely hope, a; Twitter verifies her, and b; she continues her kick-ass work, movie after movie.

FRIENDS IN FAMILIAR PLACES

Another nice feature is Larry Fessenden, who gets a nice meaty role instead of what Crampton calls the fifth banana.

WELCOME TO ANNE’S WORLD.

Anne is a normal, everyday wife who does her aerobics, makes dinner, etc. While her husband Jakob, is a minister. If you have ever seen The Santa Clarita Diet, you will know that the wife, Sheila, is a zombie, while her husband helps her cover up all of her murders.

Like Sheila, Anne needs life to survive. She has to eat. Instead of a zombie, you have a vampire.

Bonnie’s The Master is a sight to behold, it’s not your standard Dracula seducing the women or David of The Lost Boys trying to rope in another 80’s misfit to his fang club, it’s instead The Master giving Anne that second chance in life.

Through the vampiric infection, she starts to show more of an outgoing passion for life, red lipstick, beautiful costumes, a thrill for just living day to day.

The irony that a vampire is in love with a man of God has not been lost on this reviewer. It’s the perfect recipe for both success and disaster.

Disaster for the poor people that are getting murdered, success for the fact that Anne has finally found her inner passion and power.

It’s so rare to see a female run-vehicle like this, and I’m starting to see it in different projects (The Fear Street trilogy.) though it’s still very rare. This one fires at all cylinders. What’s the ending, you ask? Well, you’ll have to wait and see!
